8 hot dogs Vegetable oil 1 cup all-purpose flour 2 tbs. cornmeal 1½ tsp. baking powder ½ tsp. salt 3 tbs. butter ¾ cup milk 1 egg, beaten Pat hot dogs dry with paper towels. Heat oil (2-3inches) to 365°. Mix flour, cornmeal, baking powder and salt. Cut in butter. Stir in remaining ingredients. Dip hot dogs into batter, allowing excess batter to drip into bowl. Fry, turning once, until brown, about 6 minutes; drain on paper towels. Insert wooden skewer in end of each hot dog if desired. |
